DOA December Newsletter

By The Boss | December 29, 2010

It’s been quite a while since I have done a newsletter for the site and I thought it was about time we put up some information.  Contrary to rumors that the club has been inactive, it is a fact that there has been plenty of Warhammer Action going on all winter.

The Gillo Campaign

First I would really like to thank Warsmith Kyron aka Magnus for running this amazing campaign for us.  It was a lot of fun and I think I speak for the entire club when I say nice work putting it together, and a big thanks from all of us.  We all look forward to the highly anticipated sequel!

Winter Tournament

While the summer was fruitful and the spring as well, we have had a general lull in tournaments and major club events.  Currently I’m working on putting together a Warhammer 40k winter tournament though at the moment I’m exactly sure about a date.  I can tell you that most likely the event will take place late February early March.  The plan right now is to have this be a more social and less competitive tournament just to get the club together.  The most likely location for the tournament will be at the gaming officers of Medair here in Hudiksvall.  I will post more information on the site once we have a schedule together for it.

Fantasy Gaming

While certainly this is a Warhammer general and not just a Warhammer 40k club, we have actually never had any major events for Warhammer Fantasy though I still get requests periodically to do just that.  Unfortunately we are still very light on players, there are really only about 3 Fantasy Players in our club at the moment.  None the less for the upcoming Winter Tournament I would like to extend the invitation to all our fantasy players and if you have extra armies there is no better way to get players interested in fantasy then showing of the game, in particular given the release of the new ruleset this past year.  It’s up to you guys to generate the interest, so … sell it to us by showing up and teaching the 40k players to play, maybe some of us will finally break down and start collecting!

Membership

When the club first launched we gained a considerable amount of members in a short period of time but in the past year we have raised our membership to 14 full members which I think is really a great pool of players.  None the less the more the merrier so if you have friends who play warhammer and are interested, please be sure to pass our website along to them and get them in our club!  The more players we have the more events their will be!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and Winter in general, hope to see you all at the upcoming events!

Dead on Arrival June Newsletter

By The Boss | June 7, 2010

Hello everyone, hope everyone is enjoying the start of the summer even though the weather has been iffy! It’s time once again for our DOA Newsletter to bring you up to speed on all the events, plans and activity of the club.

First however let me just say once again how grateful I am in the participation and support of our club members. Since the club began Warhammer has become a reality in Hudiksvall on a weekly basis and it has been amazingly easy to manage the club thanks predominantly to the maturity and support of its betters, so big thanks for that.

The Warhammer 40k Tournament

As a club once a year we are going to get nasty and step outside of our cordial not so competitive games and step into the arena of competitive play. We are currently planning our Warhammer 40k competitive tournament which is tenativly scheduled in early July after the Mid-Summer break begins. We are hoping that when everyone is on their vacations they will find the time to join us and compete in this tournament. The tournament will be a tiered event in which players earn tournament points after each battle which will be played in three point categories (1000 points, 1250 points and 1500 points). We will have prizes and food for your enjoyment and a few surprises I plan to whip out for you guys. I will announce the official date/time/place when we have made our plans concrete but look for it in the first week of July.

Wednesday Night Fight Club

The Wednesday night fight club is in full swing and if you haven’t participate in our weekly game you really should consider it. We generally get together in Hudiksvall at the Medair Offices and I will be posting this regular schedule event on the calendar so if you want to join us be sure to send an email to Theboss@war-doa.com for additional information, driving directions etc. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the fight club as this regularly schedule game night is going to be going on all summer, so please don’t be shy we are super friendly!

Chapter II Campaign “The Gillo’s First War”

Our GM for this campaign has been very busy as of late and hasn’t been able to make the time to create the next chapter of the campaign yet, but we will be kicking things of again with a new Chapter II movie as well as more lore regarding the results of the Chapter I campaign. I don’t have a time frame unfortunately but I will make it my priority to kick this campaign chapter of as soon as possible so be sure to check the main site for regular updates.

Low Activity In June

In the month of June we do not have any scheduled events outside of the Fight Night every Wednesday primarily because I personally don’t have the time to organize it. However that should not stop any of our members from doing so. I encourage everyone to consider hosting an event of your own as I see DOA as a community and everyone should think about the health of the club and its events. If you would like to schedule an event all you have to do is send me an email (theboss@war-doa.com) and I will post the information on our website.

Hope everyone is having a great summer, I look forward to seeing you guys at the upcoming events!

DOA MAY NEWSLETTER

By The Boss | May 5, 2010

Club Update

The club continues to go strong and I’m happy to report that so far we have had great success in our various events and regular pick up games.  As the weather gets warmer and we are able to start having events outdoors we will likely see an increase in activity as well, though I suspect that full summer events won’t start until June.  This month we are going to see the wrap up event for Chapter I of the Warhammer 40k event on the 15th as well we will be starting our regularly scheduled summer event entitled “Fight Night” starting sometime at the end of this month.  We are also going to be planning another workshop event which was a great fun last week, though I haven’t picked a date for that so keep an eye out on the website for details.

We are also still planning on pushing out the Warhammer Fantasy events though we are still a little light on Fantasy players, but I will do a bit of research to check out interest levels and assuming we have at least 4 active fantasy players I will push for the start of the campaign and include fantasy into future events.

MAY 15th Warhammer Campaign Chapter I Wrap Up Event

On May 15th we will be doing the wrap up event for the first chapter of the Warhammer Campaign “Gillo’s First War”.  This event will be considerably more structured then previous events as players will have a series of battles that they will have based on the current story plots and events taking place in the game.

It’s vital that if you intend to participate in the event that you RSVP for the Event, so please be sure to do so.

Summer Events In Planning

June 1st will mark the official warhammer summer as far as the club is concerned.  From June 1st all events will assume warm weather permitting us to play outside and they will be scheduled with more regularity.  Aside from “Fight Nights” which will be regular weekly scheduled events here are a few things on the list of what you can expect.

Warhammer 40k Chapter II launch Event:  This event will kick off Chapter II with the release of a Chapter II movie.  This entire chapter will be dedicated to “City Fight” rules and all battles will take place in a city format using the rules for “Cities of Death” game book.  We will be using a campaign map with defined territories and the entire second chapter will be played out on a weekly basis with matches being determined by the actions of the players seizing control of territories.  I won’t reveal too many details but I can tell you that Imperial Guard, Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Necrons and Tyranids are all in the campaign.

The DOA Competitive Tournament:   This event will be exactly like it sound… competitive!  No story to get in the way, we are simply going to determine who is the best of the best.  While scheduled to be a Warhammer 40k event, given enough players we will run a Fantasy Campaign side by side.  In this event players will compete in three different point categories, earning points towards their tournament score in pre-defined scenarios.  The player with the most tournament points at the end of the game wins the tournament for which their will be prizes!  Details for the tournament will be released when we select a date but this tournament is tentatively scheduled for June.

The DOA Summer BBQ Event:  Sometime in July at the peek of the summer weather we will hold a DOA summer BBQ which will include lots of food and beer, and naturally we will have tables setup for anyone who wants to have a few games.  This will be a mostly social event, but we are likely to have some fun mini events lined up including a “Painting Competition”.

Workshop Events:  We are also planning on having some more workshop events this summer for anyone that missed the event in May this will be your chance to make some great terrain and take full advantage of the DOA workshop!

It’s looking to be a great summer, I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming events.

DOA News Letter

By The Boss | April 13, 2010

Hello Everyone

There is some exciting things happening in the next couple of months in the club so I thought it was about time I sent out another DOA Newsletter and give everyone the scope as well as some additional information about the club.

State of the Club

Currently the club has 12 Members (you can view the members list here).  The growth of the club has slowed down a bit as is to be expected, we are taking on a new member on average every month.  Currently we have about 6 very active members with the rest being relatively passive.  We are currently preparing several events (see below) for the spring and are making tentative plans for the summer.  The plan for the club for the next couple of months is to simply continue as we have by having events and regularly scheduled games for everyone to participate in.  I know there is still a lot of conversation about the fact that we have been predominantly 40k focused however this is due mainly to the fact that most of our active players are 40k exclusively so we have been focusing on support for those players.  Our plans to launch a Warhammer Fantasy campaign in the summer are still in place so if you are planning to participate be sure to let yourself be known on the forums!

As always we are looking to increase membership and participation in the club so don’t be shy about inviting friends and introducing gamers to the game.

Planned Events

We currently have 2 new events posted today on the calendar.  The first event will be a “workshop event” on May 1st. This event is dedicated to terrain building, miniatures painting and naturally we will have gaming tables setup for some side games.  The second event already on the calendar is the “End of Chapter I” Warhammer 40k event, which is dedicated to wrapping up Chapter I of the ongoing warhammer 40k campaign.  Additional events will be planned in the near future, one of which will be a competitive tournament style event for both warhammer fantasy and warhammer 40k hopefully sometime in June.  We also plan to introduce the regularly scheduled weekly event called “Fight Night”, the timing of which will depend on the weather, we are basically waiting until we can schedule these events in an outside setting.

I hope to see everyone at the upcoming events, please remember to RSVP for the events you plan to attend.

See you guys on the battlefield

DOA Opens Officially

By The Boss | April 6, 2010

I’m very happy to finally announce the official launch of our club. While I realize that our members have been gathering for several months already officially this weekend’s launch event marks the end of what I would consider the BETA period. We are now as official club as one can be. First and foremost I would like to thank everyone for all their support, contributions and efforts to make this club a reality. The community we have already built has been great and extremely cordial, I can’t say enough how much fun it has been to meet everyone and be inhumanly crushed on our table top battlefields.

I want to equally thank everyone that showed up and supported the club at our club launch event this weekend. While I had hoped for a better turn out, I’m happy to report that the event was an absolute blast and lasted a shocking 15 hours! There was some tough grudge matches, horrific upsets and a few crushed miniatures that will never see the light of day again (I will be doing a full weekend round up on the forums later this week with pictures).

Now that the club is officially launched I thought I would share some of our plans for the near future.

Fantasy Campaign: The development of the fantasy campaign has already begun and is making great progress. We will definitely see this campaign this summer tentatively planned for May 16th after the conclusion of Chapter I of the Warhammer 40k Campaign currently in progress. I can reveal that the campaign will be of epic proportions with great effort to bring some of the most horrific battles to the table top one could imagine.

40k Campaign: We will continue to play out the first chapter of the current warhammer 40k campaign and we will end Chapter I of this campaign with an event dedicated to it sometime in middle of May where the faith of planet Gillo will be definitely decided. After the completion of Chapter I, after a short break we will release the second chapter of the campaign which is going to be a new opportunity for players to join the campaign with a fresh, brand new start so get those armies ready. You can expect this new chapter to begin sometime in June.

Competitive Tournament (Warhammer 40k): Nothing brings out those cheesy list then a nice competitive tournament. This no holds bar tournament entitled “Blood Feuds” will be hosted by DOA this summer in July. This will be an epic 2 day event that will include a BBQ feast and more warhammer action then you can shake a stick at. While we are currently planning this as a 40k tournament due to a shortage of fantasy players in the club, if we get some more members we will turn this into a doubles tournament hosting both fantasy and 40k tournaments simultaneously.

Workshop Weekend: Ever wanted to learn how to make some of that kick ass terrain, or want to build your own terrain table? Perhaps learn how to make your own cloaks out of green stuff? The workshop weekend will be a two day event this summer sometime in June that will be focused on the art aspect of warhammer as we paint and create terrain and miniatures in a fully equipped workshop with all the tools and components you need to make your visions a reality as well as trained club members who can give you a helping hand. Naturally the workshop weekend will include warhammer gaming, so expect to play some games over the course of this two day event.

Fight Night!: By the time this summer is over you will bloody hate warhammer with this weekly event that will occur every Sunday like clockwork from the time summer starts till the bitter coming of fall. Naturally given the state of the weather there is no telling when this bloody summer will actually starts but hopefully by May-June we fight night will be on! Each week a host for fight night will be selected and a location. Players will RSVP to the event and as long as there are at least 2 players its GAME ON! This will be an opportunity for everyone to get some serious gaming in this summer, I hope you guys take advantage!

Fantasy Campaign Announcement

By The Boss | March 11, 2010

After several requests and inquiries about the possibility of having a fantasy campaign run by our club I realized that there are several members of the club that only play Fantasy and find themselves watching with envious glee as members participate and battle it out over the Warhammer 40k Campaign.  I’m happy to announce that we are in fact looking into having a Fantasy Campaign later this year (in the summer) after the conclusion of Chapter I of the Warhammer 40k Campaign on May 16th.

I don’t have any details at the moment, but I just wanted to ensure that everyone knew that fantasy will not be ignored.  We chose to run a Warhammer 40k campaign first because the large majority of our current members are 40k only players so we catered to the majority.

If you are interested in playing in the Fantasy Campaign and more importantly would like to volunteer sometime to its development be sure to let your voice be heard.  I have created a post on the forum that can be found HERE where we are going to be holding discussions about the fantasy campaign.

Club Shop Opens

By The Boss | March 4, 2010

I’m happy to announce that we have now openned an official club shop from which our members will be able to purchase T-shirts, hats and various other accessories.  This is a profit free shop, though we will have some items that will be marked “contribution items” which can be purchased at an increased price.  All proceeds (100%)  from contribution items go directly to the club coffers and are used to support the club events and operations of the club.

Please note that while this is a club shop, the operations of the shop (Transactions, shipping and customer service) are handled by our vendor ShirtCity.  I would appriciate however if you do have issues with ordering or shipping that you notify me of the problem as well as our vendor so that I may look into it.

“Gillo’s First War” Campaign Launches!

By The Boss | March 1, 2010

Today is March 1st, 2010 which means today we officially launch our first Warhammer 40k Campaign entitled “Gillo’s First War”.  If you haven’t already joined the campaign you can do so at the campaign website by clicking the Campaign Sign Up link.  Signing up for the campaign notifies the GM of your interest in the campaign and intent to join the struggle taking place on the forest planet of Gillo.  Be sure to check out the Prologue Movie for the first chapter for the campaign.

We are currently creating the “Gillo Campaign Guide” which will describe the rules and act as a guide on how to participate and handle the campaign which will be posted on the Campaign site in the next couple of days.  In short however this is a pretty open and free form narrative campaign which means there really aren’t very many “rules” per say, but there are some things you should do in order to properly represent your army, your general and your overall presence in the campaign, so be sure to look for this document when it’s released.  The GM for this campaign is Magnus Westberg (Warsmith Kyron on the forums) and all communications should be done with him either via email, the forum in the campaign section or by PM on the forum regarding the campaign.

This is a pre-launch event and as such it preludes our official club launch on April 4th, however for all intense and purposes it is an official campaign and will be supported fully as any other event.  Please note however that since it’s our first campaign  as a club it is likely that there will be adjustments to the rules and concepts of the campaign as we fine tune it to make it a good experience for everyone.  If you have any suggestions or comments about the campaign be sure to voice them on the forum in the campaign section, we are very interested in hearing everyone’s feedback.

For those of you already in the campaign, I wish you guys good luck and good hunting.

See you on the battlefield!

DOA Reaches 10 Members!

By The Boss | February 25, 2010

It may not seem like much but our little Hudiksvall Warhammer Club reached the 10 member mark today which I think is really awsome achievement for such a distinct hobby.  We have attracted a lot of outside attention as well, for example our Campaign Movie for our upcomming 40k campaign recieved an amazing 100 hits in the course of a week since its release which I can tell you is more hits then our site had combined since we launched the site.  We also attracted the google bots which means if you search for Hudiskvall Warhammer clubs on google you will find us at the top of the search engine giving us greater visibility for people out there looking for warhammer games.

I want to put out a big thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the club and for all the great support from its members.  Its been a really great experiance as an organizer to find so many people willing to pitch in, share their experiances and volunteer their time to make the club a great one.  So thanks a lot guys, greatly appriciate it.

See you all on the battlefield!
